OUR WINES
La Chataigne produces a boutique selection of white, red and rosé wines. We began bottling our own wine in 2003, however, the farm has always grown grapes and has vineyards dating as far back as 1942. Our styles range from fresh and fruity to classic and elegant, always mindful of ultimate balance and accessibility to both pocket and palate.
Sauvignon Blanc 2017
100% Sauvignon Blanc

Using ripe bunches and leaving the wine on the lees for 6 months we have tried to make a more ‘old world’ style wine, keeping acids and fruit in check. A fresh zesty medium bodied wine with undertones of lime and kiwi fruit.

Marron 2014
100% Merlot

This Merlot is fermented in wood and left in 2nd and 3rd fill barrels for 10 months. It is then bottled and stored at 18 degrees until sold. It’s a feminine, voluptuous, luscious plummy wine. An amphora of rhubarb, cherries, mulberries and plums with a dash of spice, cinnamon and cloves. A full, but gentle and harmonious, silky mouthfeel.

Flagship Wine
Semillon 2014
100% Semillon from bush vines planted in 1932

Our 88 year old dryland Semillon vineyard produces the most interesting of flavours. Fermented and matured in a combination of old and new barrels it was left on the lease for a year, with a process of bâtonnage – the weekly stirring of the lease – developing its creamy character. It has a big mouthfeel, nutty and with glycerine, lanolin and toasty vanilla. A real ‘winter’ wine enjoyed in front of the fireplace as the rain pelts down. It can still age some 3-4 years.
